How motorbike finance works

Most motorbike loans are secured against the bike. You borrow the purchase price, repay it over a fixed term, and the lender holds security over the bike until the loan is paid out. Because bikes are usually lower-value than cars, loan terms tend to be shorter, and for smaller amounts an unsecured personal loan can sometimes be a simpler alternative.

Age and type of bike

Lenders have different rules about how old a motorbike can be at the end of the loan, and some are more comfortable with certain types — road and cruiser bikes versus off-road or competition models. Because we work with several lenders, we can steer your application to one that suits the bike you actually want.

Buying privately

If you're buying from a private seller, the lender will normally run a PPSR (Personal Property Securities Register) check to make sure there's no finance already owing on the bike, and may ask for a few extra details before settlement.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I get finance for a used motorbike? ⌄

Yes. Many lenders finance used bikes, although the maximum age at the end of the loan varies. Send us the make, model and year and we'll check who can help.

Can I finance an off-road or dirt bike? ⌄

Often yes, though not every lender will consider off-road or competition bikes. Our panel includes lenders who do, depending on the bike and your circumstances.

Can I buy a motorbike privately with finance? ⌄

Yes. Lenders will usually run a PPSR check and may need some extra details about the bike before settlement.

Is a secured or unsecured loan better for a motorbike? ⌄

It depends on the price of the bike and your situation. Secured loans generally have lower rates; unsecured loans are simpler for smaller amounts. We'll compare both where it makes sense.

Will using the calculator affect my credit score? ⌄

No. Our calculators are estimate tools only and don't use your personal or credit information.
